The Women’s Regatta

The microsite for The Women’s Regatta is now live.

The organising committee will be contacting those who have pre-registered interest as well as former attendees of this event. If you know of any female sailors who will be interested in this event, please share the details!

We will be asking club members for support in hosting this event, which is key to maintaining diversity at the club. In the meantime, please mark your diaries for Saturday 3 December 2022, where there will be plenty of ways for non-racing members on the day (a.k.a. men) to be involved.

Race report 27 August 2022

Guest User

From our race management team Mark Lewkovitz and Geoff Boscoe:

It was a tricky day on the harbour with breeze ranging from west pre-racing through south for the first two races, then south-east and then to the east and a mixture of rain and sunshine. Chasing puffettes thrown off the cloud cells was the name of the game, as breeze ranged up and down from 3 to 10 knots. Five sprint races were managed by the race committee (Mark Lewkovitz and Geoff Boscoe) with Katie McHugh (COTD) and Cote Poncell (Co-COTD) assisting on water.

There was a solid turnout of standard rigs, radials and two young bloods on the 4.7s, joining us from Hunters Hill Sailing Club. Luke Parker dominated in the standard fleet with Geoff Kirk leading the rest of the fleet in hot pursuit, while James Tudball and Evie Saunders led the charge in the Radials.

A big thank you to Paul and Shirley who provision sailors with the world’s best toasties!

A reminder to all sailors that we transition into the summer season this weekend with Learn to Race, Club Championship Races 1 &2, and a barbecue on the deck for all sailors (including LTR attendees) and significant others.

The club’s calendar can be subscribed to here (strongly recommended).

Volly of the week

Guest User

Double Bay Sailing Club is managed and run entirely by volunteers. As the saying goes, “many hands make light work. There is always work to be done in the upkeep of our shed and the ongoing running of dinghy racing.

This week we’d like to thank John Verco. John has made a significant contribution to the club in the lead up to our working bee, by ensuring we had all of the right equipment on the day. He spent time visiting the hire shop, coordinating the correct equipment and being on site to ensure the hired equipment was delivered and then returned. John has coordinated the painting of the club house, and earlier this year the painting of the change rooms (with the help of Tory Epworth). We are very appreciative of the magnificent work he has done.

The club is full of people making wonderful contributions around the place, and sometimes behind the scenes. Let us know who deserves a mention!
