Reminder to sign on

Guest User

Double Bay Sailing Club will now use the Sailor app for race sign on and sign off.

We encourage all members - remote and local to the club - to download the app and use it for sign on this Saturday 12 November. Sign on provides us with up to the minute information on members sail numbers for scoring and helps identify who is out on the water for each race.

This replaces our previous "remote sign on" web page process for remote members.

We had a successful run of the sign on process last week, with 98% of local and remote members signing on OK. Thank you to all members for participating and continuing to support this initiative.

More information and brief instructions can be found on the DBSC web site HERE. If you have any problems or need to update your sail number, please email results@dbsc.com.au

Download the app and give it a go! Sailor is available as a free download from the iTunes and Google Play Stores.

Volunteers for The Women's Regatta

Guest User

Thanks to everyone who has volunteered so far but we need MORE volunteers for The Women’s Regatta!

As a club we are committed to increasing female participation in sailing, and events like The Women's Regatta encourage female sailors from Sydney and beyond to come together and celebrate their ability, resilience, and love of sailing.

In order for this to be a standout event, we need all the help we can get from members who aren’t sailing. Please let us know if you are available on Saturday 3rd December for tasks on and off the water. These include, but are not limited to race management, course setting, RIB driving & race support, boat prep & rigging, boat launch & retrieval, parking, and canteen.

Please ensure you email womensregatta@dbsc.com.au by this Friday 11 Nov to let us know your availability so that we can schedule in the tasks. Events like this are important initiatives for the club and your support is much appreciated 🙏🏼

Congratulations to Evie Saunders who has won Australian Sailing’s Youth Sailor of the Year award. In presenting her this award, Australian Sailing says,

“Evie Saunders is an up-and-coming ILCA6 sailor with a proven track record amongst world class fleets. She set herself apart this season by securing the silver medal at the ISAF Youth World Championships at The Hague, making her the first Australian girl in 14 years to medal in the Laser class at the Youth World Championships.”

Almost famous (casting call)

A film and TV casting company are looking for a 4 person crew to appear in a TV commercial that shoots in Sydney late November (24th - 29th overall, although they’d only be needed for one date in this range). Its a paid opportunity – $2K per person ($8K total).

They are ideally after people between the ages of 40 - 60 who would be capable of manning a 40ft yacht in Sydney Harbour. Also, the production is offering an additional $3K if anyone in the group has access to a suitable yacht that could feature in the ad.

The application process just requires suitable men / women to send us a quick chat-to-camera where they introduce themselves and talk briefly about their sailing experience. It doesn’t have to be anything fancy at all - shot on a phone is fine!

If you’re interested, fill out your details and upload your video here. https://form.jotform.com/FountainheadCasting/chubb

If you have any questions at all feel free to contact Adrian at Fountainhead Casting on 02 9311 4300 or email Adrian adrian@fountainheadcasting.com.

Race report 29 October 2022

Guest User

From our PRO Nick Pellow:

We had a strong turnout for heats 7&8 of the Spring Pointscore. The wind was a shifty westerly varying from gusts of 20+knots down to near 0 during the end of race 7.

Each of the races had a different favoured tack to the top mark - indicating just how variable and long lasting some of the shifts were. There were some large lead changes in both fleets as the wind died and some boats were either out of wind, or in the outgoing tide, or both.

The Standards saw Daniel Costandi win race 7 and Commodore London take home the chocolates for Race 8.

Whilst in the Radials, Ian Tudball won race 7 with Murray Stone winning race 8.

Thanks to COTD, Yves Stening supported by Ben Byford for laying a decent course given the tricky conditions. At one point they even ferried the PRO to the top mark anticipating a shortened course scenario - only to be surprised by a fresh line of breeze coming from the North West.

Aboard the Jazzman was Nick Pellow, supported by David Airey for LTRAR - and special guest Charlie who is visiting from London and a huge supporter of Campbell Patton.

Thank you also to the off-water team in the Canteen, Paul, and Shirley, assisted by Campbell Patton and Dean Kurz.

This coming weekend we will be racing Club Championship races 5 & 6. The club’s calendar can be subscribed to here (strongly recommended).

Volly of the week

Double Bay Sailing Club is managed and run entirely by volunteers. As the saying goes, “many hands make light work. There is always work to be done in the upkeep of our shed and the ongoing running of dinghy racing.

This week we’d like to thank Kirk Marcolina. Kirk filled the role of newsletter editor for years. He has also been the club’s resident videographer for our events and instructional videos. Since retiring from the newsletter, Kirk has once again stepped up to another large job at the club – coordinating the distributed volunteers across the broad range of jobs to be done outside our racing roster. We are so very grateful for Kirk’s contributions.

Kirk at our season opening dinner with Max, Nick and Campbell.

The club is full of people making wonderful contributions around the place, and sometimes behind the scenes. Let us know who deserves a mention!

Race sign on - new app

It is the same app engine that is used by the Australian Laser Class Association for regattas. In the near future, this app will also incorporate our race scoring and results.
