Registration for BBSP closes Friday

We are delighted to announce that Brett Beyer will offer his popular Brett Beyer Saturday (BBSP) Program again this season.  Subscriptions need to be confirmed and paid by COB, Friday 19 August. The terms of the program and sign-up form can be found here.

The program will run for 8 sessions prior to Christmas on September 3, 10, 17, October 22, 29, November 5, 12, 26. The cost of the program is $480 (plus merchant fees) per subscriber.

Season opening dinner

By now you should have members should have received an invitation to the season opening dinner for sailors and volunteers.

Race report 6 August 2022

On Saturday the club kicked of the preseason sprint season. The conditions at the club belied the 13-16 knots gusting to 28!!!

Racing was run by Alistair Sutherland, Christine Paton, Pia Hattersley and Andrew Craker with Paul and Shirley providing toasties in the canteen.

This weekend we will also be having sprint racing at 1pm. Paul and Shirley are back on board with toasties.

Winter series results

After a little delay and some confusion about the final day racing the winter series results are in.

While the series was intended to be 30 races, there were only 9 days scheduled and therefore there were 27 races held over the winter.

In the standard rig, Daniel Costandi was the championship winner and Tim Heath was the pointscore winner.

In the radial rig, Sylvie Stannage was the championship winner and Andrew Cox was the pointscore winner.

Annual working bee

The annual working bee will be conducted on Saturday 20 August from 8am. This is an annual event that takes considerable planning to ensure our club is ready to run smoothly for the summer season. All members are expected to attend – there is a large amount of work to be done. If you are unable to attend on the day, please contact the Commodore, Steven London, and arrange for a job to be undertaken at a time convenient to you.

(Members who do not participate are under the usual threat of having their laser torched in the park!)

Member survey

The member survey provides important feedback for the committee as it shapes the direction of activities undertaken by the club. Many of the wonderful initiatives the club has undertaken were a direct result of the previous survey.

Thank you to the 35 members who have completed our member survey.

If you have not completed the survey yet, please do so. We want you input. In particular you are encouraged to think about one thing the club can do to improve, and one thing the club should drop as it adds no value.

From the surveys so far, the committee is cognisant that not everything we are working on is being communicated well to the membership and we are reflecting on how to do that better. In the meantime, we are working on a ramp upgrade and partners and families are welcome at the club championship barbeques (the first of which will be on 3 September).

The committee is looking forward to sharing the results of the survey with you soon.

Brett Beyer Saturday Program

We are delighted to announce that Brett Beyer will offer his popular Brett Beyer Saturday (BBSP) Program again this season.  The initial instalment of the BBSP will be for 8 sessions on September 3, 10, 17, October 22, 29, November 5, 12, 26. 

The cost of the program is $480 (plus merchant fees) per subscriber. It needs at least 20 subscribers to run. Subscriptions need to be confirmed and paid by COB, Friday 19 August.

BBSP subscribers will carry a GPS during each race, and will later receive a report and animation showing their GPS tracks vs the fleet, together with fleet-level commentary on each leg, and also a video with commentary on the starts. Subscribers will also have access to Brett to ask questions on the water (not during the races), and can also later ask questions on the weekly report.

We need 20 subscribers paid by Friday, 19 August for this to proceed. 

Lost property

There have been a number of sails and associated boat covers etc that have previously littered the clubhouse and have hence been stored in the workshop over winter. These items, some of which are listed below, have now been placed on a table near the canteen.  Any items not claimed by 20 August will be disposed of in a sustainable manner at the end of the working bee.

The lost clothing basket, which contains such items as jackets, sailing shoes and rash vests, is also at the table for members to reclaim lost gear.

Help at the nationals

Georges River Sailing Club will be hosting the Australian Championships (open and youth) which will be held on 2-8 January. DBSC will be lending a RIB to GRSC for this event. and is collating names of members who are willing to assist GRSC in driving the RIB or in any of the other volunteer activities that will be undertaken for the smooth running of the event.
